See More About The Man Who Lived 256 Years And How He Did It

Li Ching-Yuen or Li Ching-Yun (died 6 May 1933) was a Chinese herbalist, martial artist and tactical advisor, known for his supposed extreme longevity. He claimed to have been born in 1736, while disputed records suggest 1677, implying an age at death of 197 and 256 years, respectively. Both far exceed the highest verified ages on record. He died three days after his alleged 256th birthday in 1933.

The legend of Li Ching-Yuen says that the man was a physician and a herbalist and thus knew a lot of secrets for good health and longevity.

Li was said to be a much-loved figure in his community, marrying 23 times and fathering over 200 children. According to the generally accepted tales told in his province, Li was able to read and write as a child, and by his tenth birthday had traveled in Kansu, Shansi, Tibet, Annam, Siam and Manchuria gathering herbs. For the first hundred years he continued at this occupation. Then he switched to selling herbs gathered by others.

In 1877, when the Chinese Imperial Government congratulated him on his 200th birthday, a military general Wu Pei-fu took him to his house to know the secret of his longevity. Li had simply said.

“Keep a quiet heart, sit like a tortoise, walk sprightly like a pigeon, and sleep like a dog.”

Although it is probably impossible living up 256 years in the Western world ..I do feel we can implement Li Ching Yuen philosophy to increase the happiness within our lives. The longetivity is not the secret to Li Ching Yuen’s life ..but the simplicity he lived by, that entailed him living an enjoyable which he gracefully quoted, “I have lived harmoniously and done everything” on his deathbed.
