Important Things Every Nigerian Should Know About Nigeria's New Security Chiefs


Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday replaced security chiefs.

He announced on his Twitter account that he accepted their resignation and thanked them for all the sacrifices they have made for Nigerians in their work.


He also released names to replace those leaving the national security service.



This comes as people criticize the military for their actions in Orlu, Imo state.

New Chiefs are:


Commander I Attahiru is now the Chief of Army Staff.

Small Biography of General I Attahiru

Attahiru held various ranks in the Nigerian military.

He previously served as the military commander fighting Boko Haram in Borno State, dubbed 'Operation Lafiya Dole'.

It was during Attahiru's tenure that Boko Haram carried out most of its atrocities in 2017.

One of them was when Boko Haram attacked NNPC agents on a trip to explore for oil in the Lake Chad region.

Twelve soldiers lost their lives in the attack, while Boko Hara kidnapped some University of Maiduguri lecturers and took part in the march.

In December 2017, Attahiru was removed as the head of Operation Lafiya Dole and relocated to the military headquarters in Abuja.

General Leo Irabor replaces Gabriel Olonisakin as Chief of Defense Staff.

Irabor also worked for many years as the chief medical officer.

Irabor handed over the department to Attahiru in May 2017.

Irabor later worked as the head of the military's 'training and operations' division.
